The (in) visibility of the LGBTI population

This course follows on from our conference “What about this heritage? The LGBTQI + presence in the European Year of Cultural Heritage“(2018). We seek to better understand the specificities of discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people and how discrimination, often in a subtle way, affects the visibility of the experiences and reality of the LGBTI population. With a special focus on culture and access to culture, we explore examples regarding the standards of artistic expression and identify, some opportunities for growth and greater dialogue. Issues such as application forms, signage, services and diversity of programming are discussed. In this course we see to what extent we give an idea (or not) that art and culture are of and for all those interested.

BIONOTES

Marta Ramos holds a Master’s Degree in Human Rights and DemocratiSation. She currently serves as Executive Director of the ILGA Portugal Association. She previously worked in the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe, the European Parliament and the Committee on Citizenship and Gender Equality. She is a member of the ILGA Portugal Association since 2011, where she has developed specialised work in the area of ​​awareness raising and combating hate crimes against LGBTI people through the implementation and coordination of the Observatory of Discrimination and UNI-FORM projects. She co-coordinates the Legal Department of the Association and is also responsible for monitoring asylum seekers and LGBTI refugees.

Daniela Filipe Bento was born in Cartaxo, living in Lisbon for 14 years, during which time she began her process of identity discovery, beginning with the grouping of communities that sought support for people of different genders. Assuming herself as a woman, trans, not binary, pansexual and relational anarchist, she always seeks a critical view of other social lines. She began to approach the associative and collective environments 5 years ago, finding important spaces of reflection to lead her fight.
